I chose this book in order to get more out of the Bible. I am happy with my choice. I feel able to approach the Bible, the Gospel of John in particular, and also Freud, Dostoyevsky, and maybe even Proust thanks to Things Hidden Since the Foundation of the World. Topping a list of dozens of Biblical insights and things to watch for is Girard's "non-sacrificial" reading.
