Really good. Love how ST’s struggle of protectiveness vs Dee’s chasing freedom is portrayed—not tropey or over the top and very much grounded; you really understand ST’s worry and especially his fear of her becoming wild and “uncivilized”. And it’s extra touching how he sees his own struggles with identity reflected in Dee in reverse.

Like this quite a bit more than book 1 so far. The focus on depression and parent/child relationship works well in the bleak apocalyptic backdrop. Despite being common trope, I liked how the (over)protectiveness of ST was conveyed.
I love how ST’s voice comes through in this and also the little footnotes and pop culture references are very fun and well incorporated. Strikes a great balance of humorous and serious.
