Vincent was checked into St Remy Asylum. The place was depressing and the food was shit. “The cockroaches in his soup made him homesick for Paris.” His roommates each had something going on with them. He got to painting again. Requested to be let outdoors to paint; was approved. Then one day he was found face down in a ditch after not coming home like he said he would.

Vincent wakes up in a hospital after his outburst. Theo by his side, announces he’s met a girl. Vincent is happy for him. After a short time, Vincent is let back out where he is harassed by the townsfolk of Arles. They mock and bully him. He retaliates and lashes out. The people sign a petition to have him arrested. So he’s taken to jail. Where he is released and taken to St. Remy mental institution.

Paul Gauguin finally moved in with Vincent after fighting the idea for so long. They fought daily about art. It got to the point where Paul told Vincent he was going back to Paris. This made Vincent manic and depressed. Vincent ran up on Paul with a blade but stopped and ran home. He cut off his ear and gave it to a prostitute. Paul Gauguin decides he’s had enough and leaves to Paris.

Vincent went out to go paint somewhere that was a 2 hour walk away. While he was painting a girl spoke to him and he thought he’d gone mad. She said she’s loved him and has been following him for years. He couldn’t believe it. He vented to her. He fell asleep. Woke up alone and walked him in the dark. He got home and looked at the painting and was finally happy with it.

Vincent was painting outdoors a lot, but was unsatisfied with his work. He painted without thinking. He learned to make his own pigments. He met a prostitute minor. He met the postman Roulin. He moved out of his hotel room into a yellow house. He was writing Paul Gauguin who was in prison and needed to get out and find a place. Vincent got the idea that Paul should move in with him and they could make art together.

Vincent arrives in Arles and he loves it there. He sees how alive and vibrant the sun is here and how the colors around him are like nothing he’s ever seen before. He meets a journalist who warns him that the people are crazy and he should get out before something bad happens. Vincent decides to stay.

Vincent was chillin with a bunch of the impressionists and they decided they all should all start a club where they sell paintings and each earn money from it equally. Theo was going to manage. But Vincent got sick of the artists and club because he wasn’t painting anymore. He said it sucked being around a bunch of artists cause it made him realize he wasn’t that special. So he took off to Arles.
