I think this is going to be a fun hate read. Natalie is so perfectly unlikable.

I think it's a real skill to write someone so thoroughly dislikable that I actually want to keep reading about

You are the first of my friends to read this so I’ll be interested to find out what you ultimately think of the book. I do enjoy a good fun hate read, but there ended up being *too* much for me to hate, and other things that made it more depressing than enjoyable.

Honestly, I avoided it at first because I usually don't enjoy a hate read. This is why one of my friends and I disagree greatly on Tom Perrotta. She thinks his books are great and while I don't disagree that he's a good writer, I don't enjoy reading a book where everyone is kinda awful and we're just supposed to be okay with that.Unfortunately, given my profession, I hear all the buzz, and sometimes curiosity gets the best of me. This is how I ended up reading Yellowface and, no matter how that book made me feel (I'm still very conflicted), it was a thoroughly engaging experience, so I'm hoping I at least get that from Yesteryear.
