So the rumours about Amazon were true, the greedy bastards DO delete your books.

*drags a pile of hardbacks bought on holiday & climbs onto it*

I'm back!

Well, kinda. Needa recover before I'm back. Some news:
1. Amazon deleted a buncha ebooks I bought years ago. "Not Available."
2. I'm fully transitioning into a retellings-only reviewer.
3. Be married in a few months.
4. Sunburn. Got booted from the World Cup.

Hanging in there, many more health issues this year and pain has been a friend eep... may need two surgeries.. cross fingers for me surgeon thinks I'm a good surgery candidate for the bigger one.

No sunburns yet thank goodness.

~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ First Congrats! So close! A few months??? So when will the big day be?? In October, November, or December??... I honestly thought you guys already got married this year.. YES.. Sorry you had to find out the dirty truth of AmaNazi & book practices this way, but yeah.. They've done this forever.. Most of them could still be in your Kindle cloud though.. You should try that.. if they are, then you can re-download em in your Kindle.

And what does this mean, exactly?: " I'm fully transitioning into a retellings-only reviewer."

Karen Welcome back. Was wondering about you recently.
Have you read Lady Tremaine yet?

message 14: by CB (new)

CB Congratulations!!

I have over 3000 books on my kindle so if some got deleted I probably wouldn’t even notice 😭😭.

Got booted from the World Cup… as in your got kicked out or your team didn’t win?? 😅😆

message 15: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Ryder Yay, she’s back! Congrats on the upcoming marriage, I wish you and Cub many happinesses for hundreds of years to come!!!

Ha, Amazon deleting ebooks doesn’t surprise me at all, that’s why I buy physical books if I really like them! Though as a suggestion, if you haven’t already tried this, if you can remember the titles type them into your Kindle and see if they come up. I’ve had this happen to a couple books where they’re still in there they just won’t show up with the rest of them and for the life of me I can’t figure out why.

message 16: by Thibault (new)

Thibault Busschots Yes, they unfortunately do that. Just because you buy an ebook doesn’t mean you own it, apparently. That’s another reason to stick to physical books.

Cool that the wedding date is approaching! Do you still have a lot to do?

And welcome back, Marquise :)

Victoria Bramwell Booted from the World Cup? You can’t just end that statement there. I require more details.

Yeah, the bastards do indeed do that. 😐 And I'm not talking about Kindle Freebies or Kindle Unlimited books either, but books you buy with your hard-earned money. Fic and non-fic.

Which is why so many of us back-up our eBooks off of Kindle, but Amazon is making that nigh impossible with the newer Kindle formats...

The shift towards retellings only, you mean?

Hehehe, I know. This site has sadly lost many of its stars...

Marquise ~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ wrote: "First Congrats! So close! A few months??? So when will the big day be?? In October, November, or December??... I honestly thought you guys already got married this year.. YES..."

We hoped to get married last year, then this Summer, then this December, but life got in the way . . . and work got in the way . . . and family got in the way . . . and bureaucracy got in the way . . . and Cristiano Donaldo got in the way . . . So here we are. Gotta talk to the wedding planner and the lawyer about the exact date, but it's this year or I'll just kidnap the Cub and talk some unfortunate registrar into marrying us before 2026 is over.

I had those deleted books de-DRMed and downloaded for saving off of Amazon, so I didn't lose them in the end as I still have my backup copies. But even so . . . it's so bloody annoying! They don't even warn you. And with the newest books I can't de-DRM to save them because the old tricks no longer work with the newest Kindle formats, so I still own a sizable amount of books I don't have a backup copy for in case Amazon deleted them too.

Sure, most are just retellings and hard-to-find indies (that don't sell anywhere, hence why I still buy from Kindle), but some are non-fiction books that have cost me a lot of money... Those I am worried about losing if I don't de-DRM and save.

"And what does this mean, exactly?: " I'm fully transitioning into a retellings-only reviewer.""

Something I've thought about during this holiday and will talk with the girls for input. You got my email, right? Can talk over there.

Lady Tremaine? I don't remember seeing a book with that title... Or I forgot, most likely.

Marquise CB wrote: " I have over 3000 books on my kindle so if some got deleted I probably wouldn’t even notice 😭😭."

I wouldn't have either if not for my organisational bug biting me hard. I was moving books between folders on my Kindle, and there's when I noticed the deleted books.

I'd recommend you de-DRM and save the most important ones, just in case...

"Got booted from the World Cup… as in your got kicked out or your team didn’t win..."

The latter. 😂 And because I'm cursed, all the other teams I supported on the side also got the boot. 😂

Marquise Sarah wrote: "Yay, she’s back! Congrats on the upcoming marriage, I wish you and Cub many happinesses for hundreds of years to come!!!"

I'm of the Maximus Decimus Meridius school of thought, so with Cub it's in this life and the next. 😂

Thank you, dollink! <3

I had backup copies anyway. And also, I'm also going back to buying paper copies of books I really loved. It's been ages since I did this, because I kept losing my books during moves and had little space, so when eBooks came along, I embraced them and got rid of my paper ones...

message 32: by Marquise (new)

Marquise Thibault wrote: "Yes, they unfortunately do that. Just because you buy an ebook doesn’t mean you own it, apparently. That’s another reason to stick to physical books."

Thank you, Thibu!

True, but in my usual genres many don't have paper editions, and when you're a dedicated reviewer, eBooks are far more convenient. Not to mention that digital copies are easier to buy from outside the US/UK/CA area when booksellers do not ship outside those countries, and a loooooong et cetera.

Yeah, still lots to do. International weddings are a headache. I now understand why people elope so much in romance novels. 😂

Marquise Victoria wrote: "Booted from the World Cup? You can’t just end that statement there. I require more details."

Missed my collectible shirt of Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal shirt 7. Lost the match to Cristiano Donaldo, US team shirt 47, and my team lost, and the other teams I also supported also lost WHEN I started supporting them as per the stipulations of my curse.

Successful hate-watching of the final, though! 😂

message 34: by Fred (new)

Fred Jenkins Congrats on the impending nuptials.

Sorry to hear about the Kindle plundering, but not surprised. When you buy e, you buy the air. If I really care about a book, I get it in hard copy. Books that I especially like in a nice edition, hard cover, first edition, sometimes association or signed copies (my favorite being a presentation copy of Oedipus Rex to Edith Hamilton from Robert Fitzgerald and Dudley Fitts; you can't get those on Kindle!). And you can get new print books from France and Germany (probably other countries as well) through ABE (sorry still Amazon). In any case, screw Amazon.

Thank you, Fred-sense! <3

Yeah, I'm planning to buy some favourites in paper too. It'll have to be a long-term endeavour. For the volume I read and the space I have, eBooks are just way more convenient, and my books budget can get me all the books I want to read but not on paper.

Backup is and has been my solution for a long while now, only that Amazon is making it difficult or impossible with the changes to the formats they've forced on all eBooks they sell. There are tricks, I learnt some for the older formats, but I'm not as tech-savvy as to manage with the newest. Not yet, at least, I'll have to learn, there's some non-fics I couldn't afford to buy in paper due to price but could pay for the digital version. Those I'm most interested in saving from potential deletion.

On Yellow Satan, many, many years ago, they pulled a just-released new edition, in Kindle version of .... wait for it, wait for it ...

1984. Made news for all the obvious reasons.

 ~*~Princess Nya Vasiliev~*~ @Marquise..

Yeah.. I'm pretty sure I gave you my email in one of our DM chats before DM's went away.. Should be there.. :)

Hit me up when you have time..

You both can always just do a private ceremony-since this one matters the most anyway.. This way, in your hearts and before God, you two are already joined in holy Matrimony..Then you go & change your last name to his legally, yourself..

Then once you can, have an official (law ceremony) The Legal way, when you're able to do so, would just be a formality at that point..

I have cousins who have done this before, for one reason or another.
