Hmmm this book so far feels written for people who have not yet interacted with books, shows or documentaries about ancient China at all. It's not necessarily a bad thing but the main character is naive to a point 😭 which is very convenient to introduce palace politics 101, I can only hope it gets more inspired as it goes

Yeahhh I'm only halfway through but so far it has been riddled with plot conveniences and painful dialogue where the characters will explain their actions out loud and it's just not my cup of tea 😔 I'll still finish to see if it goes anywhere plot wise but idk, I can see why ppl would like it but I'm already familiar with palace politics and I've just had better already so this just doesn't work
yeah, ok, this is getting off the tbr, i trust yalls taste and i love palace politics, so it being wrong fucks with my whole reading experience ☠️ i just gave a 2 stars last month bc of this exact reason, I'm not looking forward for a repeat 🤡
