"I'm all right," I said in a broken voice. "I'm only overwhelmed. I always cry when I'm overwhelmed. It will stop soon."

To my surprise, he took me at my word. "Yes, I noticed that before. Here."

He went to his worktable and rummaged about in a drawer, excavating a handkerchief.

“Havelock isn't much given to talking about his feelings. He isn't proud, I think he just forgets sometimes that he has them.”

Earlier in the book, when talking about the duties of the cat shelter, she said that she had to give the cats baths. Now, she testily tells Havelock that "cats don't need baths," when he suggests that that's one of the duties of the shelter... sooo.. which is it?

It’s so difficult to read right now, and I’m afraid I won’t be able to finish this before I have to return it to the library, but man, Heather Fawcett’s writing just really clicks with me 💜
