This book continues to shock me. The fact that they treated women’s anxiety as IBS, told women that eating spicy foods made them hysterical, and so much more less than 100 years ago is beyond me. But also sadly makes sense for why we still struggle as women to be heard, seen, and believed in the medical, professional, and sometimes personal world.

Only on chapter 1 and I’ve audibly gasped and said “wtf” to myself 10 times. Nothing is surprising as a woman but it is incredibly disheartening to learn about what women have endured in the medical field as both an employee and as a patient.
