this is really interesting but i am taking the ‘women did this, men did this’ stuff with a pinch of salt, given that this was published in 2003 and there have been numerous studies since showing no such evidence (on top of the fact that ‘men’ and ‘women’ have never been the only distinct genders in our species)

becoming increasingly irritated with the discussion of glaciology in this book…i know the author is an archaeologist but he just described a period as being both post-glacial AND during the LGM. that is literally fucking impossible. also his chronology for the british-irish ice sheet is AWFUL holy fuck, i can promise you the BIIS was stable at 25ka

forever baffling that the education system here seems to act as though anywhere east of istanbul and west of mumbai is just a void where nothing ever happened. as if (among many other things) the earliest evidence of cereal and legume domestication is in palestine, and the first event of organised architecture is found in jordan??? those are such insanely important markers in human history

we had no tap water at the end of last week, officially in a drought, about 5 heatwaves deep, and some absolute fucking inbred had the genius idea to start a bonfire up on the hills last night. and so naturally the surrounding fields also went up in flame and we have to keep doors and windows closed bc of the smoke. fuck sake.
