You simply do not find books written in this way anymore, in this type of slightly formal really nice to read English. Where writers use the word "frocks" to describe what little girls wear. I love it!
I got intrigued enough to read up on Guernsey, and the main author. Really sad for her. But glad she gave the world this book.
