I am making progress. I find that his smaller chapters are actually better written than the longer ones. I think this book could be 200-400 pages shorter.

When will this man stop telling and start showing. Kaladin is super magical and good with a spear, and Brandon actually get his prose to shine for a moment, Kaladin gets respect from those around him for a moment and it works. And then he beats us over the head with the fact that Kaladin is oh so special. GET A NEW EDITOR, TODAY, you nailed this and then it dies because you can't shut up. I wanted to love that scene.

Sanderson needs to stop trying to be funny. He had a little bit of comedy for like, on scene and then proceeded to completely trampled over top of the little funny he had by just continuing to try to make "jokes" Bestie, please get a new editor, I'm begging you.

Misogyny in fantasy must die. A good man hating any connection to femininity/women's work is stupid. Dalinar is not supposed to be unvirtuous, but having him refer to breaking gender conventions as "Unnatural" makes me hate him so much. Even if this is just a trope that he's playing into as his flaw, it makes him look like such an ass I can't even. Femininity is not the enemy. This is Sanderson's religion talking.

This book makes me happy and sad at the same time. At some moments it is one of the best books I've read, in others it feels way under edited. There's a scene with Dalinar and Sadeas where Dalinar's angry, and the emotion on the page feels well written, palpable...Sanderson then goes on to tell the reader how Dalinar feels. Twice. Three sentences. Come on dude, you've written like 30+ books this is rookie behavior.
