Having read a little on kindle, I've now realised that the narrator is a big part of why I've been struggling to feel greatly interested in the characters/plot points. Though I do also think that the book throws you into politics without giving you much reason to care about the individual characters first. I'll stick this out, but sadly it's not been as immersive as I'd hoped!

Unfortunately finding this a bit of a chore. The character names don't stick for me and I find the narrative jumping around quite tricky to follow on audiobook. Also, the narrator sucks!

Got this and the sequel on the 2 for 1 audible sale, should give me a bit of a fantasy fix whilst I work through Monte Cristo in paperback.

Liesl I enjoyed it a lot when I read it a few years back....but I do think it's a book that benefits from just being binged on holiday: there's so much going on in it and the politics gets going very early (though I admit, I liked learning about the characters through their predicaments)
