Isabel and I can make jokes and laugh together, but we’ll never have the playful relationship she has with Drake. And I’m not jealous of that. Because I know that’s all it is. They joke like brother and sister…or at least like best friends.

A chorus of giggles catches my attention from the other end of the bar, and I glance up to see Drake doing body shots with the birthday girl. I don’t know why, but I catch myself grinding my molars. I don’t know why I’m surprised. He’s been like this since we were teenagers.

“I don’t know… I sort of liked him,” Isabel adds with a sweet smile. My wife likes everybody, making her judgment a little hard to trust sometimes.
