I think staying rooted on the spot worked because Lee, as I understand it, refused to flank Meade’s position or make a feint towards Washington DC which would have forced Meade out into the open

I started following Amish Murray. My wife and i like Amish suff. Been to Lancaster PA even, and Gettysburgh. Lots in IN and KY too. Lots of PA Amish cashed out and went to Kentucky, towns like Crofton and Elkton/Fairview/ Guthrie.
Davy- we used to get cheese and my mother even brought an Amish curio cabinet that I still have today
When i was a kid in the 1960s and 1970s the popular (common?) belief was that Amish were largely in PA and OH and IN and I was sort of proud of that. I know Amish are spreading out quite a bit these days. What time period in Illinois? Closest IL town to here is Carmi. I know there are tons of Amish now in Marion KY which is just across from Garden of the Gods area in IL, which I haven't been to yet. I am not disputing you at all, just curious.
There is a great Amish business right in front of the Jeff Davis Monument at his birthplace in Fairview/Elkton KY. Taking the elevator to the top makes the view worth a trip. Lots of Abe Lincoln [Hodgenville Forkland] and bourbon [Bardstown etc.]. Perryville Battlefield, Shaker Villages etc. New Harmony IN is also great and the nearbyLog Inn where Lincoln ate in Haubstadt/Warrenton IN. I am not a tour guide...just on a roll
