End of Act 2. Sadeh and naïve Ellie. Reading the account of The Colonel taking advantage of Ellie in her inebriated state, my hair stood on end as I witnessed it. She divulged something she shouldn’t have.

“Unaware that it would be our last.”

The book is a whirlwind! Two close friends realizing the other has changed in time. They seem close yet distant. Like hidden barriers built to protect themselves and their dreams preventing each other from truly seeing one another. What happens in the next three years?

Like the winds stirring the Dave below, whipped up by the return of the legendary Huma bird.

End of Part 1. My heart breaks for Elaleh. Her pain and story feels reminiscent of my own. I have felt that pain too.

The book is, like I said before, quite good! The simple narrative and the foundation of an aching heart built from a young age. Bright and jealous, sad and determined.

I like forward to seeing the Lionness Elaleh will become. The prologue of Elaleh-e-Homa’s estrangement begins to take shape.

Read for just 30min yesterday, fighting the street lamp and my own shadow to parse the words laid out before me.

Ellie is immediately relateable. The deep weight of regret is one people, including myself, often bear alone. How much longer will she have to?

It’s going to be a fast read, I can tell :) already loving the book.
