So good, and so easy and engaging to read. The pacing is perfect and fluid. The dual timelines are unique in their own right and bring unique themes to the table.
Love the side characters, Barbara, Walter’s enemies to friends, August’s prickliness, and even Al’s envy of Ringling as motivation. And Marlena’s sensitivity, composure, and competence.

Shaping up to be one of my favorites!
The writing is simple but gorgeous and the setting is immaculate. Has a sense of that romanticism of running away with the circus but given a grounded, darker treatment.
It’s also does sensuality and tenderness so well. I like Jacob and his boy failure by trauma story. Also really intrigued by Marlena/Catherine and excited to see where that goes.
