A women mentally abused by her society to stay meek and quiet because its proper and dont expect a troll healer who sees the worst of what humans do to be compelled to be kind. He only becomes kind after she proves she can be a troll wife and not as "human". Why would you expect kindness in the beginning, when he is meant to change and learn for the plot to grow.
