On chapter 10 of the audiobook. It's so damn good, but makes me so angry that I have to force myself to take breaks. So far I've gotten whiffs of Fried Green Tomatoes, Mockingbird, and Strawberry Girl for the heated southern vibe, but especially A Tree Grows in Brooklyn for the family, poverty, and the scrappy heroine coming of age. The way the characters drive this story is amazing... not one dud in the bunch.
