Just reading what I imagine might be one of the best historical accounts of La mulâtresse Solitude. The author weaves in the one contemporary account with other sources to create a narrative, also citing oral histories. There is nothing said that is unsourced or otherwise demonstrably inaccurate. It’s very compelling!

The first chapter after the introduction started off slow again, mostly talking about what revolution is and what counts, but got better when it got into specifics about the Haitian Revolution, something I for one learned nothing about in school. Even though I liked this part the most so far, I felt like it was probably a bit surface level and I would actually like to read something more in depth

Just finished the intro. It was very long and it felt like it was trying to convince the reader of things that I for one already believe. I hope the rest of the book is more interesting!
