Sometimes, characters you don't like get thrust to the front of the narrative, and sometimes they surprise you positively. Sometimes, characters you didn't like but have come to respect and understand then commit actions so at odds with what you've come to expect from them and their code that it immediately sours the experience of growing towards them. I've put down the book and might be a while before I pick it up
