The scene where Dostoevsky explores Underground’s perversity of self-sabotage against Rational Egoism’s anthropology (i.e., humans are just self-benefit maximizers) is hilarious!
I wonder if too many readers of Dostoevsky today liken him to something of a modern day Christian apologist? Maybe there’s truth in this, but he’s also devastatingly comedic. I see more Gogol than Christian didacticism.
