This is my introduction to Kaveh Akbar. I have a ways to go in the book, but I want to note what drew me in from the beginning: his writing is incandescent. He brings the lyricism and metaphor of a poet into a more expansive, energetic narrative voice. His imagery is vivid, almost transcendent, and there’s a clever, playful wit running through it. The words seem to move on the page.
