I’m genuinely taken aback by the heavy-handed sexual content; it’s unsettling, and the unnecessary profanity only adds to the discomfort. It’s a shame, because without those elements—and with a lighter touch on the esoteric subjects (Egyptology, quantum physics, art history)—I might actually enjoy this novel.
The bigger issue, though, is that I don’t find any of the characters particularly likeable.
