It’s insane just how bad racism was (and still is) in the South. Whites were so cruel to blacks. Then when black people left en masse, whites were like, “wait, come back,” and blacks just ignored them. Then whites were like, “okay we’ll pay you better, won’t whip you, won’t lynch you, come back” and blacks are like, “da fuck no!” Racism, man, is such a terrible poison.
