Switched to this hoping for a better read after Prince of Thorns and Nightmares. Why is it worse? At least the other book was for middle schoolers. This book feels so smug. Literally says “You might not want to read this.” Genuinely so ungrounded in the historical characters that I don’t get why it chose to make it being abt the historical characters the hook.

Ibn Battuta is in this chapter. The only character I know rather intimately. I did two whole papers on him just this year. I felt like the other characters seemed terribly mischaracterized but I didnt know them too well to know for sure. I’ll say now that this was a terrible representation of Ibn Battuta. He’s after glory here… on his hajj. If u just read his book, he wasn’t. He just loved traveling.

The predators are literally wolves. Wowww. Inventive. A girl has to get rid of her bags while fleeing. Wow. Wonder what that symbolizes. Geez.
