Been a while since a first read was this good. The characters are SO REAL.

Very excited to read this after meaning to for so long. The first chapter alone is a display of WONDERFUL writing. And yet so modern-feeling despite being written in 1943! She is a genius, so adept at her talent. It’s really so hard to describe what makes characters come so alive in certain author’s writing, and yet… well it happens before our eyes!
