Jeannette’s upbringing and events that happened in her childhood are so egregious that I forget that this is a memoir. It is not fictional and those occurrences are all real. The book makes me feel dejected sometimes, to the point I tear up a bit, but it gives me hope and motivation to see that she had enough willpower to keep moving after all that, and managed to write this memoir.
