This book had a really interesting start, but now I’m bored. When the author introduced a second story within the story, I was annoyed and suspected he didn’t have much of a lot to flesh out. Now I’m convinced. This could have been a short story.

Also, I broke my intention to stop reading books written by white men, and I am paying for it. The narrative voice is so self-important and smarmy. Blah.
