Lots and lots of warring; I suppose since it is mainly between the French and British it could be an alt-history version of the French & Indian war. Which could mean that the next book is going to have a lot of American Revolution parallels.

Pirates of Avalon (North America, I guess?) versus Imperial fleet of Briton plus Atlantis colonies? This is fun!

A lord who has "fallen out of favor" with the king just came to Atlantis and decided he has the right to tax the settlement(s). Conflict and death was inevitable.

This story really got rolling! Intrepid Briton fisherman finds the shores of Atlantis and decides to take his family to settle there- for freedom from the king, among other things. Familiar. =D
