This is by far the most freakishly difficult book I have ever read. James Joyce excepts readers to be as familiar with his favorite Dublin lamppost as with a 4th-century heresiarch bishop's death on a toilet à la Elvis.
Reading Ulysses is the most mentally exhausting thing I have ever done.
