Despite fans’ love for Scully, and Gillian Anderson—who was voted FHM’s sexiest woman of the year in 1996 and was often referred to as the “thinking man’s crumpet”— Scully is rarely depicted as sexual.

The year that The X-Files returned to our screens was the same year that Oxford Dictionaries selected “post-truth’ as its word of the year, defining it as shorthand for “circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.”

“The show was great for its time, but they’re going to have to up their game considering how mainstream crazy conspiracy theories have become.”

...the original series existed in “that rare era both pre- and post- technology takeover,” and many of the episodes as well as the show’s underlying themes attempt to grapple with that double-edged sword.
