Yeah so this chapter was incredibly sad, why is everything he likes getting ruined☹️ FUCK LOMAX MAN! Also the paragraph on 180 is genuinely a beautiful masterpiece of such vivid prose, this is like my favorite writing style yet

Aw man incredibly sad chapter for William stoner, happy that Edith has found herself more but in doing so she’s ruining the relationship between William and grace and as well tearing apart William’s own things for herself. It seems as if they are both prisoners of the time of society they’re in

Oh wow… by far the best chapter yet, it made me tear up with his parents, shocked with Edith’s father, and intensely filled with a strange hope with Stoners discovery of finding his true self in teaching through the influence of being a father

There is something incredibly powerful behind William Stoner realizing that he was building the image of himself that kept deep inside into a real reality as his life came together, and how even though it might not be perfect he can still look at the bright sides. (I’m horrified for what the Great Depression will do to this man ☹️)

Anddd there goes the love story ☹️ I truly believe that for Edith one of two (or both) ideas. 1. Edith might have autism and in such an early time Idek if they knew that existed, and 2. The school training they had her do to learn the responsibilities of a woman could’ve done like permanent damage to her, or maybe she just doesn’t love stoner 🥲 BABY GRACE THO

John Williams vividly beautiful prose makes this love story segment of stoners life so much more precious and beautiful! John Williams has immediately grown on me his writing is just so visual and grand yet bleak and emotional

Very beautiful chapter showing Williams rising love for Edith. I think they seem awkward yet at the same time wholesome and adorable. John Williams writing and prose still has me completely stunned with how vivid everything is

“The scholar should not be asked to destroy what he has aimed his life to build” just wow what a great quote! This second chapter ended with a huge hit of the death of masters and also still super relatable especially in our modern times
