1. Jefferson was privately an abolitionist - obvi dissonant w/ actions though, didn’t free his hundreds of slaves even in his will like Washington did
2. Many secession attempts, incl New England funding England in War of 1812 🤯
3. DC structured in circles specifically w/ quelling rebellions w/ military force in mind - “Unlike in France, there should be no barricades in Washington”
