fun facts: it all started because of the gangs in S.E. Hinton's school. She wrote a short story about a boy walking home from the movies and getting jumped (which is the starting scene in the full outsiders movie, it's cut in the free movie), then she extended it into a book. She actually was friends with a group of greaser boys, who would ask her if the characters were based on them even though she said no.
