In Mark's Gospel, Jesus says to his apostles, "Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while" (6:31).
"He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd" (6:34). The Lord Jesus physically enacts the meaning of Psalm 23 for us. It is surely no accident that on seeing the sheep without a shepherd, Jesus commands everyone to "sit down in groups on the green grass" (Mark 6:39).
