Sophie was so pissed at her father, but also, somehow it was reassuring that he was still drinking. That he couldn’t change. He would die before he could change. so Sophie shouldn’t bother hoping for him to be any different than he was. She was off the hook. She didn’t need to hope anymore. Because it was hopeless. Sophie had prepared herself for her father’s death so many times.
