the description of this book really interested me, but so many characters keep bringing up Heaven and Christ and whatever else. The main character just got over the death of his daughter bc “heaven took possession of his soul”. like i might have to dnf this

HELLO?? PORTUGAL? ARGUABLY ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS LOCATIONS JUST IN GENERAL? WHAT THE FUCK 😭

Okay so what’s actually going on here? Did he find out he’s dying and come to this town to do something good for others? HES FROM PORTUGAL. HE MOST RECENTLY LIVED IN NEW YORK CITY. ??? I don’t understand this motive IF that’s what it is

Okay so. Still the first portrait, this woman goes on to tell how she was pregnant at one time, in college, but HER FUCKASS FATHER. convinced her not to quit school to take care of the kid that she WANTED. and i think the assumption here is that she had an abortion that she DID NOT WANT. just bc her father was a dick. and she thinks she’s terrible for that, and has spent her life since just constantly sad. dude.

The first woman he gives a portrait back to is telling this beautiful story about how her grandmother raised her bc her father only cared about his work, and her grandmother made sure she was surrounded by nature and books and all that. And then this lady says “Yeah but you know what I really want most in life? To be a mom. And just a housewife. Just a house wife raising a kid”

Okay so like…What? Huh?

So far kind of boring but also a little intriguing? Hm.
