I can't help but notice the omission of Elizabeth's day-to-day interactions and relationships with other women—I understand that inevitably, fewer records of the activities of the women at court (particularly Elizabeth's ladies in waiting); still, there are moments where I feel like a good historian would be able to, at the very least, speculate about the company of ladies-in-waiting.

e.g., when Elizabeth is without Dudley (the Earl of Leicester) during their fights: "For a few days Leicester and Pembroke were denied entrance to the Presence Chamber, while the Queen, bereft of allies, sought solace on the comforting shoulder of the Spanish ambassador." I don't doubt that the interactions between Elizabeth and de Silva are the only ones that are evidence-backed during that time, and I'm not advocating for false/unverified information to be presented as fact. Maybe her ladies weren't with her during this time! BUTTTTT Somerset has not once (to my memory) discussed whether records even exist of Elizabeth's relationships with her ladies, or the duties that they performed, and now I'm left wondering!!! Where were they during this time or times like this? Did Elizabeth rely on them for emotional support like many other Queens did? Or did she mostly enjoy the company of men? These details seem important in painting a complete picture of a figure whose complicated relationship to her femaleness is at the forefront of her image, actions (stately and personal), and her identity. I want to knowwwwwwwww!!!
