Reading this on my phone, for times when carrying a physical book is impractical. Still getting through it pretty rapidly - it's surprisingly addictive, King is indeed a very good writer (this is the first of his books I've read, otherwise I'd have known before!), and the dynamic between his kid characters is heartbreakingly earnest. Also, it's properly scaring me.

Pretty obvious now that I'm just going to have to make this my primary reading book until I've finished it. It's so addictive that the length isn't really registering. And King can construct a sentence, which elevates him in my estimation - his name shouldn't be used as a byword for second-tier genre, in the way it sometimes is.

A little weirded out by where I think things are going with Bev (in the early, childhood sections), and a little distressed by Richie Tozier's "N***er Jim" act—possibly we're meant to be, since King was writing in 1986, not 1950-whenever. I'm also fascinated by the way he frames childhood in two distinct ways, as a time of ultimate innocence (the Losers) and of terrible cruelty (Bowers et al.) A lot to think about.
