I just got the strangest comment on my review for The Second Sex accusing me of being a “woman in digital blackface” and using AI and criticizing me for ignoring the trauma of daughter-daughter relationships in the name of femininity (or something like that). I feel like it must have been a bot because it made no sense, although I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it.

Noel Ah, the commenter has been a Goodreads member since July this year, and they’re an “author” whose sole book (not out yet) has this blurb on Amazon smh:

TINDRA I am humanizing the best I can. But when Sen dumped me for Emma, my rival Yelp! reviewer, I realized the best way to get over someone isn't to get under a stranger. It's to lure Sen back, give him the most mind-bending night of his life, and absolutely wreck him with a bad review. Nothing says "I’m over you" quite like a meticulously engineered hate-f*ck.

The only problem? We are obsessively no-contact. No texts. No phone calls. No 2:00 AM glass-tapping.

So, I used my trusty AI to vibecode a bespoke NSA hookup app, dropped the link via an anonymous burner, and lured him into the dark web using his own hidden kinks against him. I call it Five Star Me.

SEN I thought I walked away. I thought the game was over. Then I get a ping from a unknown number with a link to a new hookup app, 'Five Star Me.' The rules are absolute: No names. No IDs. No faces. Just a time, a place, and a binding NDA. It’s the perfect cover. It's the perfect trap. I'm already hooked.

But the collateral for this sexy trap is steep. If you don't earn a five-star review from your anonymous partner in five encounters, you'll get hunted down by the notorious Anna K -- and she doesn't leave stars -- she leaves marks. I don't know which one turns me on more -- five chances to get five stars, or one chance to meet Anna K.

The only thing I know for sure is I can't say no.

THE APP RULES:

Do not speak.
Do not remove the mask.
Leave a review.....or leave in a body bag.
Five Star Me is a standalone, dual-POV, high-angst erotic thriller where the HEA is a five-star rating, and the greatest danger isn't an assassin—it’s accidentally catching feelings.

Raul How odd. Sorry about that, Noel.

P.E. Holy molly. What is this truckload of rubbish...

message 5: by Jeroen (new)

Jeroen Vandenbossche You say “truckload of rubbish” P.E. but I choose to remember that Noel says it got him thinking. Now how can that be a bad thing? 😉 (Jokes aside, Noel, just continue doing what you are doing. We all love to read along over your shoulder…❤️).

P.E. No wonder you haven't been able to stop thinking about it for a while: what is this sort of nasty, wanton stuff? An oblique means to get more visibility by plaguing GR members on loved reviews about popular books? Ugh...

message 7: by Katia (new)

Katia N I am sorry Noel. It is unpsetting, but do please ignore this rubbish. Delete it and maybe contact GR admin. They should delete this bot or person id.

message 8: by nastya (new)

nastya Don’t waste your brain power on this, friend, just delete and block!

message 9: by Noel (new)

Noel Haha, thanks guys :) I’ve deleted it. I’ll probably report the bot later.

message 10: by P.E. (new)
