emily ah, you've gotten to That Scene, huh. old uncle steve was coked to the gills when he wrote IT, and sometimes you can really tell!! 😬😬😬

sarah but yh i totally agree with you, he was mad for writing such a thing (and i'm in the chapter with THE scene now)

emily oh god yeah that one is also really fucking bad, lmao. there really is something about king, his writing is so gross, but so fucking compelling!

sarah istg, i hate his writing (extremely vulgar, sexual and racist) yet i keep trying different novels from him!

emily totally get that-- i do think he tries to use overt racism as a sign that characters are bad people, same with misogyny and homophobia, just with mixed results lol-- like politically he's pretty okay for someone in his 80s, and as far as i can tell he acknowledges that the stuff he wrote before he got sober is off the charts in a lot of ways. if you haven't tried some of his more current stuff like lisey's story or the institute, i really liked both of those. but also, a lot of ppl just don't like his stuff, and that's okay too! he's for sure an acquired taste XD

sarah yes! I'm shared between my hate for his vulgar and overly racist writings but and the fact that it really do make his characters more true like he said.

I tried a short story called laurie which is definitely not in the same genre King writes in, and i liked it! The institute is in my tbr :)
