The use of a semi colon is only necessary because adding unnecessary information to the damn sentence ruins the ability to simply use commas which feels more appropriate, to me, when using 'and' or 'but'. Oh ho, but this is to emphasize her point of grammar being hard for the layman! Sure!

Now thats not a proper sentence because taking a moment to ramble has nothing to do with the sentence. In effect she does this though. So bugger off.
