I stand corrected—there really is no wasted motion in Memphis. Fast-paced, purposeful, and well-developed—though I wanted more Derek.
I especially love the complicated bond between the sisters and how that same love echoes through Miriam’s daughters. It’s tragic, bittersweet, mysterious, and a true page-turner. Every time I think I know where it’s going, another wave hits. Part Two, here I come.

Part Two was jaw-dropping! I’m especially curious about Miss Dawn’s connection to the North family. Is she truly friend or foe—and even if she is a friend, is there a price the family pays for being connected to her? There are also some references I want to dig into because they feel intentionally significant. And I’m intrigued by the north women husbands seem to shift further with each generation.

As a North Memphis native living out of state, the setting feels like home.
The family drama starts immediately, and some of it feels familiar, whether personally or through people I’ve known. A few scenes feel unnecessary, but I think they offer relief after heavier moments and keep the book from feeling overwhelming.
So far, so good. We shall see.
