Desire, obsession, and beauty seem to be very important themes in the Secret History. I theorize that these themes foreshadow the Greek language students undoing. It’s already been established that the Greek language class is much like a cult and that its teacher holds many characteristics of a cult leader. This is why I believe that the book will end in disaster.

In the beginning when we learn that Bunny will be murdered later on in the book, I was inclined to feel sad for him. Now on the other hand, I would gladly have helped the Greek language students push him off that cliff. He an odious, hateful man. I honestly wanted to stop reading when I first read the horrible things he had to say about the LGBTQIAP+ community.

The Secret History is intriguing thus far. That being said, the main character Richard Papen is incredibly unlikable. His craving for social acceptance and validation from his peers leads him to have an incredibly parasocial obsession with the Greek language students, with whom he desperately wants to befriend. I'm excited to see how his obsession guides his actions throughout the book.
