I am not very far in, but already this book is proving itself to be brilliant. The funny turns of phrase, the subtle wit, the literally allusions to David Copperfield by Dickens…. Brilliant. Just brilliant. I’ve read a lot of Dickens, and even though he’s writing about the poor, because it’s 1800’s England, his characters feel more posh. So I LOVE what Kingsolver is doing in setting this in the rural South
