This book actually managed to make me squeamish about embalming at one point, which is a feat. That being said, I wouldn’t say the description was overly sensationalized. I had just never thought about the concept of washing the body out once you’ve removed most of the organs.

It always baffles me that the fact that there was a rebellion against Egyptian rule in Canaan c.1400 BCE that resulted in hundreds of people from the region being taken as slaves to Egypt is not discussed more in speculation about the historical origins of the Exodus story.
