Quick diversion into the cultural history and schools of tuning of my newest object of obsession. Thankfully, this is an academic endeavor rather than ‘Lute for the Layman.’ An amazing instrument organized in quarter-tones, so the harmonic possibilities are greatly expanded.

Oh, that’s fantastic. There are so many styles of saz playing it is wild. I’m over the moon on playing it as it is so beguiling. Almost half in and half out of Western music, it’s fascinating the hell out of me. I’ll have to look up the Budapest Cafe Orchestra. Maybe they’re like Penguin Cafe Orchestra, but Hungarian-rooted? Thanks for the tip.
