First third is this book was B O R I N G!! Once the kids grew up, it has gotten better. I can at least finish it now.

I see I am in the minority. I'm 12% in now and the read is so slow I'm having trouble continuing with it. It's my first D E Stevenson book, and maybe my last! So many four and five star reads on this book. I can't understand it. I'll plug on a bit more and see if it improves. If not, I will just put it down and figure D E Stevenson is not for me.
