Give me strength this pacing is a trainwreck. After we slog through the seige at the Vandra there's a smidge of breathing room, and now we're doing a whole new novel-length plot except more boring. I assume the tedium is why it's not split out into two separate novels of manageable length. Also, Jane fucking sucks and I hope I remember correctly that Winter rightfully foists her off onto Abbey at the end.

I think I'm remembering why I didn't continue with this series. The pacing in the first book, pushed along by the demands of the military campaign, is dragging in this much more political installment. The broader cast of colonials are still en route and I'm struggling to care about these new people. The three plot lines seem self-interested and disconnected. And Janus still isn't sharing his plans with anyone.
