Don't put this one on your TBR folks, especially if you're a P&P fan. I've barely begun and I'm already in hater mode. If it was just it's own book, it'd be a middling YA book so far, but boy oh boy it's a *bad* retelling.

One thing that repeatedly gives Oliver dysphoria is being cinched into bodices. This is completely anachronistic, if you look up women's fashion of the 1810s, the empire waistline was common, which would NOT show off feminine curves. Even funnier, if you look up mens fashion, they DID have snatched waists, so a bodice, though out of time, would have actually been gender affirming for the time period.

Our "Elizabeth" character in this retelling is Oliver, and when he's in girl-mode at the ball, Darcy behaves the way he does in the original. But then, Oliver's out in public as himself, they're immediately besties, and the book implies that the reason is because Darcy hates women LOL
